At the end of a long day of travel, the folks at Landmark Vineyards were kind
enough to roll out the welcome mat. We stayed at a beautiful on-site
cottage (in Kenwood, Sonoma), which looked out over well-manicured lawns, a
pond, and neatly kempt rows of vines.

I was informed that the purpose of the sprinklers was not so much to give the
plants a drink of water, but rather to keep the vines warm and prevent them from
freezing during the night.
The next morning we woke up early. We had long drive in front of
us. Our mission: a day trip to ski Squaw Valley at Lake Tahoe. At
dawn, I packed my bags and stumbled outside. On the road again...
